Preparing For an Out of State Move

Mar 10, 2020
Are you planning to move out of your current state of residence to a new one? Well, it’s a big move no doubt and it can be overwhelming for some people, especially when you are not prepared. Moving is a big decision and if you are feeling a little nervous about it, don't worry, it's perfectly normal.

However, there are several things you can do to make moving day as painless as possible. In this post, we give you a few tips to help you better prepare for an out of state move. Here they are:

Visit the State You Are Moving To

It is important to have a clear idea of where you are moving to. Unless this is a state you’ve visited recently, you may want to get there and see for yourself what you are getting into. A reconnaissance visit helps you to achieve two important things.

First, it brings a sense of familiarity with your new state, something that will make settling down far easier. Secondly, a reconnaissance visit also helps you to identify various routes and roads that will make mobility in your new home easier when you move in. It is also advisable to use a local guide when you make your first reconnaissance visit, especially if you are visiting for the first time, or for the first time in a long time.

Research Neighborhoods

You will need somewhere to stay once you move right? Do not wait too long to determine where you will be living - in fact, we suggest that you begin searching as soon as possible. A good rule would be to research various neighborhoods in the city well before moving day.

What are the crime rates in those areas? How much do houses sell for? Are there any schools nearby? How far is the neighborhood from your place of work or business? If you can answer these questions, it will be easier to identify the most ideal neighborhoods to settle in with your family. It is also important to research local property laws and taxes, as well as local movers.

Budget Early

Moving is a costly undertaking, so it helps if you have a predetermined budget to guide you on the entire process. The overall moving budget can vary depending on where you are moving. Typically, it consists of the moving costs (monies paid to movers), settling costs (renovations if needed for your new home), and any other miscellaneous expenses that may arise during the move.

What Are The Alternatives?

It is also important to ask yourself whether you need to move or not. As we have already noted above, moving is a huge undertaking, so do so only when you are 100% sure it's the right thing to do. You may also want to ask yourself if the state you are planning to relocate to is the best option for you depending on your circumstances. Is there a different state out there that still meets your preferences but offers less hustle when it comes to moving day?

Prep for your out of state move well in advance so that you aren’t stressed when it comes time to move! Learn about your new neighborhood, local laws, and consider all factors before making a big move.

As the birthplace of the United States of America and home to many other historical events, Philadelphia is a tourist attraction. This American city was the base from which William Penn, a well-known Quaker, stood out for the ideals that catalyzed the independence of the United States from the British colony. A century later, Independence Hall would adopt the Declaration of Independence in this city.

There is no better analogy for a whole being greater than the sum of its unique parts than Philadelphia’s cheesesteaks. There is no elegant edge to the local favorite, yet visitors don’t forget to add this vital part where they feed their senses of taste after, before, or during their tour of sights and touch.
